Have you been to Uttrakhand? Recently, I went to Neem Karoli Baba in Nainital with my friends this year. It was a friend-meetup tour at one of my kindergarten friends' houses in Uttrakhand. You know that I love exploring cafes and restaurants. My friends, they love it too. As my friend, Akshita, is a local citizen in Ranikhet, she took us to her favourite roof top cafe in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand.

From here, my personal experience starts. Let’s dive in deeper to know everything about this famous cafe & restaurant.

Doliya Pahadi- A Famous Roof Top Cafe in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand

“Doliya Pahadi” is one of the finest eatery spots in Almori district, located in the beautiful hill station. The restaurant is near the main market, Sadar Bazaar. As Uttarakhand is a tourist spot, travellers across the globe visit here to try something different and local foods, apart from Chinese, North Indian, or South Indian foods.

This rooftop cafe & restaurant in Uttarakhand is popular for the view of the Himalayas. People here come to enjoy the peaceful moments and vibe in the mountains along with having local homemade dishes. Now, let’s have a glimpse of ambiance, foods, and other things.

Ambiance Check!

Doliya Pahadi has a warm, rustic, mountain-cottage feel with both indoor and outdoor settings with unique, cultural ambience. The indoor seating area’s walls are decorated with old Kumaoni artefacts, brass utensils, vintage photographs and local handicrafts. The lighting in the evening is spotlighted with yellow-coloured bulbs and lamps, including a wooden fireplace in the corner, which is fired in the winters to make the room warm and cosy.

This famous cafe in Ranikhet also has a special library corner for the book lovers. Here, at Doliya Pahadi, you can also enjoy your own company while reading different genre books of your choice.

On the other hand, the outdoors is the eye-pleaser, with the beautiful view of pine and deodar trees housing the area and sometimes in winter season, you’ll see snowy blankets spread all above the trees. Not only this, but the fresh air of the Himalayas makes the outdoor space perfect for the summer and early autumn.

The indoor was beautiful with local artefact decor, but the outdoor setting pleased my heart. This place is ideal if you’re not running out of time, as afternoon lunch and evening spent here are unforgettable and the happiest. On top of that, the staff are well-spoken and polite, and they also suggest what combination of dishes can be eaten to experience the best taste.

However, being in the city lights and living a hectic corporate life for a longer time, we need something like this to experience to never lose a spark in our life. Spending time in mountains and nature is the way to heal yourself inside out.

Food and Menu Highlights of the Best Cafe in Ranikhet

Doliya Pahadi has multiple cuisine options to try, but the local, home-made dishes are mostly eaten by the customers here. There’s a separate cuisine named Kumaoni, which is the customer favourite. This rooftop cafe in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand, serves “Kumaoni Thali”, which includes:

  • Bhatt ki Churdkani – a black soybean curry

  • Gahat ki Dal – horse gram lentil

  • Aloo ke Gutke – local potatoes tempered with jakhiya and red chillies

  • Kafuli – spinach and fenugreek curry

  • Chainsoo – roasted black gram dal with earthy and thick texture

  • Mandua or marua roti – Ragi chappati

  • Bhaang ki chutney – a tangy chutney made from hemp seeds

  • Jhangora ki kheer – barnyard millet pudding

  • Steamed rice and salad

This Kumaoni Thali carries a mild-spiced dish which is very fulfilling and completely different from the other standard restaurant foods. Other than this, this rooftop restaurant in Uttarakhand also serves the best, unique local dishes and beverages, which are a must-try and very rare to be found anywhere in India.

Pahadi Chicken Curry is best served with rice or ragi roti and Buransh Juice/Rhododendron Squash, a refreshing local drink made from rhododendron flowers. This drink is very rare to find.

On the other hand, the menu also includes:

  • North Indian dishes

  • Chinese starters

  • Sandwiches, cakes, pastries, pakoras, tea, coffee, and more.

However, most regular visitors, including my friend Akshita, suggest that if you are at Doliya Pahadi, you should order from the Kumaoni menu because that is what the place serves best. And yes, I tried it, and that’s why this review article is on your feed.
